Gojek: The Modernisation of Ojek in Indonesia.

As I have typed in the previous post, I am going to write another post about something for a subject called Media Convergence, and the lecturer is pretty cool and somehow he looks like the drummer from Maliq & D'Essentials. Well actually the lecturer asked us to write anything about Gojek, a new company that uses motorcycle as a taxi in Jakarta. Which is a good thing since I use them most of the time to get myself from home to college.

"An Ojek For Every Need."

First things first, Gojek stands for Go-Ojek, where Ojek means two-wheeled-taxi in Indonesian. Second, the company was founded by Nadiem Makarim, a Harvard graduate who was actually an active user of Ojek itself. What he did was that he built an app for both iOS and Android so people can get an ojek through the app. Other than for transportation, users can use Gojek for courier delivery, food delivery and shopping delivery.

Nadiem Makarim, the genius behind Gojek.

The first time I heard the name Gojek was from my friend on Path, a social media app. I was a bit curious what was it all about, so I gave it a shot and I was surprised about their service. They even give you a face mask and hair mask (?) before you get on the motorcycle. And one thing that I really like from Gojek is that you actually know how much you are going to pay and who is the driver that will send you to wherever you are going to.

Look at her happy face!

Since the first time I used Gojek back in November 2014 until now, there are more than 1.000 drivers have applied as Gojek drivers in Jakarta alone. But then, as time goes by, there is another competitor for Gojek, called Grab Bike (or Grab Taxi in other countries). Grab Bike came out first, but not many people have caught the fever of it. Now, both Gojek and Grab Bike are like arch-nemesis to one another. But in the end, it depends on the users which one to use, because both have more-or-less the same service.

Download it on App Store and Google Play now!

For those of you who are curious or interested in Gojek, you should download the app on Play Store for Android and App Store for iOS. Currently they have been having promotions where you only pay Rp 10.000 to wherever you are going to. I mean for college students, isn't that an amazing deal?
